Lets just face it, writing, like any art, is hard work. Many of us write when we are depressed or practice the ritual of journaling to cope with life. Or maybe you are one of those people who sit around waiting for inspiration to happen. N/extra Writer’s Project exists to make the leap beyond writing therapy and to help those who feel a little out of shape to flex their semantic muscles and become stronger writers through the act of practice. Or maybe you’re already a pro and you want to stay in shape, you can join us too. We are New York City based and we welcome writers from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds. Meet us online once a month for a delicious dose of strength training and in person every three months to share whatever literary fun you have been up to. This could be big.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

-Writers blog once a month (prompts are usually posted on the first), you have 7 days after the prompt has been posted to submit. You can write as much or as little as you want, you can free write or draft as many times as you like over the course of 7 days. After the 7 day window has passed, email your writing to nextrawriter@gmail.com and it will be published on the site. Please submit original works only. Your writing will appear on your own page.

-This is a working space, there is a common understanding that the works submitted are drafts not polished pieces.

-Our motto is some writing is better than no writing so we try to submit whatever we’ve got done for the month.

-Responses to posts are highly encouraged. Only supportive and constructive comments/questions are welcome.
